How to get hired

Whitfield County hires new firefighters through its Rookie/Trainee program. Applicants must be at least 18, hold a valid Georgia high school diploma or GED, and possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver's license. Applications are submitted online through the county's GovernmentJobs careers portal.

Personnel selected for service must complete a Firefighter I class within one year of their start date. After finishing recruit class, they then have one year to complete First Responder Certification and the HAZMAT Core class. All classes, equipment, and workers' compensation are provided free of cost by the department, and recruits who finish are eligible to become certified State of Georgia firefighters.
