About Union County Fire Department

Union County Fire Department covers Blairsville and surrounding Union County, Georgia from a headquarters station on Shoe Factory Road plus a network of stations organized into four groups, each led by a volunteer lieutenant. Career staff hold down operations at headquarters (Station 1) and Station 13, with weekday coverage extended to the Suches area, while a much larger corps of volunteer firefighters and officers staffs the remaining stations across the county.

The department answers all types of emergency calls, averaging roughly 2,400 responses a year, and holds a Class 4/4Y ISO Public Protection Classification. Beyond emergency response, the department runs community-facing prevention programs, including free smoke alarm and carbon monoxide detector installations for residents in need and participation in the NFPA's Firewise Communities program to help reduce wildfire risk to homes.

Leadership includes a fire chief who also oversees county emergency management, supported by an administrative assistant, a training lieutenant, and a battalion chief, with day-to-day volunteer operations coordinated through four station groups.
