About Newton County Fire Service

Newton County Fire Service (NCFS) has served Newton County since it was established in the early 1960s, growing into a career and part-time department of 163 personnel operating out of 10 stations covering 279 square miles. Headquartered on Highway 278 in Covington, the department runs both non-emergency dispatch and 911 emergency response for the county.

Beyond fire suppression and emergency medical response, NCFS maintains a Fire Prevention Bureau that handles annual life-safety inspections, plan reviews, permits, and code compliance, and a Fire Safety Education division that runs school and community programs, smoke-alarm installations, car-seat inspections, and Stop the Bleed training. The department also operates a training center with a two-story burn building and drafting pits for firefighter skills development.
