About City Of Valdosta Fire Department

The City of Valdosta Fire Department protects roughly 56,000 city residents from seven stations, running a fleet of 15 apparatus that includes eight engines, two ladder trucks, an air/light unit, two airport crash/rescue trucks, an urban search and rescue truck, and a tanker. Its 112 nationally- and state-certified (NPQ Level 2) firefighters respond to more than 3,800 fire and rescue calls a year, earning the department the highest possible ISO rating, Class 1.

Beyond structural firefighting and EMS, Valdosta fields a Georgia Emergency Management Agency (GEMA) Type III HazMat/WMD team that has operated for over 25 years, and is one of only ten departments statewide designated a Type III Urban Search and Rescue resource, backed by more than $1 million in federal grant funding. The department also houses the Southwest Georgia Search and Rescue regional unit and has deployed personnel well beyond city limits, including mutual-aid support after Hurricane Katrina, tornado response in Baker County, and wildfire operations in Ware and Atkinson Counties. Community-facing programs such as the Citizens Fire Academy, Jr. Fire Marshal Program, smoke alarm installations, and "Shop with a Firefighter" round out its Community Risk Reduction division.
