About Burke County Emergency Management Agency

Burke County EMA is a fully staffed, round-the-clock public safety agency headquartered in Waynesboro. It provides ambulance/EMS transport and structural fire protection across Burke County and its municipalities, with the exception of fire protection within the City of Waynesboro itself, which is served separately. The agency also leads county-wide emergency planning, training, resource coordination, public information dissemination, and disaster recovery support, operating out of 12 stations spread across the county.

The agency is actively recruiting for both full-time Firefighter/AEMT and part-time AEMT positions. New hires are not required to arrive already certified — candidates willing to obtain Georgia Firefighter and Georgia AEMT certifications are accepted, moving into 24-hour shift assignments and receiving pay increases as those certifications are completed.

Beyond emergency response, Burke County EMA runs community safety programs, including a free smoke detector program offered in partnership with the American Red Cross and an emergency/weather notification sign-up system for county residents.
