About Ponce Inlet Fire Rescue

Ponce Inlet Fire Rescue is the career fire department for the Town of Ponce Inlet, a small coastal community on the Volusia County peninsula. It provides 24-hour fire suppression, Advanced Life Support (ALS) emergency medical care, and fire prevention services to a year-round population of over 3,400 across just over 7.5 square miles, with the population swelling seasonally.

The department is compact and paramedic-heavy: 15 career firefighters staff five personnel per shift, always including at least two paramedics. Every apparatus carries full ALS gear.

Ponce Inlet holds an ISO Class 2 rating and, as of March 2026, became CFAI-accredited through the Commission on Fire Accreditation International, making it only the second agency in Volusia County to earn that distinction. Public safety is directed by Chief Dan Scales, who has led the department since 2005.

How to get hired

Ponce Inlet Fire Rescue is a small career department that hires through the Town of Ponce Inlet's employment portal. Firefighter openings are limited given the 15-person roster, and there were no active fire department postings listed at the time of writing.

Candidates should watch the Town's Job Openings page and use the Notify Me alert feature to be notified when firefighter or paramedic positions open. Because every shift requires at least two paramedics, paramedic certification is a strong asset for applicants.
