About City Of Largo, Largo Fire Rescue

Largo Fire Rescue traces its roots to the early 1900s, when a volunteer brigade fought fires with hand-drawn equipment. The department professionalized in 1962 with its first paid firefighters, and has since grown into a full-service combination fire-rescue agency covering roughly 30.5 square miles in Pinellas County, including the City of Largo, the Town of Belleair, the City of Belleair Bluffs, and nearby unincorporated areas.

Today the department operates out of six fire stations with about 169 employees, including 159 sworn firefighters and paramedics and 10 civilian staff. Its Emergency Medical Services division runs 13 Advanced Life Support units, providing dual ALS coverage at most stations and triple-unit coverage during peak demand hours, with hospital transport handled by Sunstar Paramedics.

Beyond emergency response, Largo Fire Rescue's divisions cover training and professional development, community risk reduction (fire inspections, code enforcement, and public education), logistics and fleet management, and emergency management coordination with Pinellas County and FEMA. The department holds an ISO Class 1 rating and is actively pursuing accreditation through the Commission on Fire Accreditation International.
