About Mountain View Fire Protection District

Mountain View Fire Rescue (formerly the Mountain View Fire Protection District) is a full-service fire and emergency medical agency headquartered in Niwot, Colorado. Founded in 1961 as the Longmont Fire Protection District with volunteer personnel, it has since grown into a career organization spanning multiple communities.

The district's footprint reflects a long series of consolidations: it absorbed the Erie and Dacono fire departments in 1990 and 1991, added paramedic-level service in 1997, and merged with Rocky Mountain Fire in 2020. Today it serves Mead, Erie, Dacono, Niwot, and unincorporated areas of Boulder and Weld Counties from a network of numbered stations.

The department is organized into divisions covering Operations, Training, Medical, Prevention and Outreach, Fleet and Facilities, Wildland, and Administration. It earned international accreditation through the Commission on Fire Accreditation in 2013 and holds a strong ISO rating.

Crews here handle a broad mix of structure fire, emergency medical, and wildland incidents; the district was among the agencies that responded to the 2021 Marshall Fire, described as the most destructive fire in Colorado history.
