Department careers page ↗The Manhattan Beach Fire Department is the all-risk, all-hazards emergency response agency for Manhattan Beach, a four-square-mile beach city of about 35,500 residents on Santa Monica Bay in Los Angeles County's South Bay. Thirty-three career firefighters staff four apparatus across two stations, responding to fires, medical emergencies, hazardous materials incidents, rescues, and natural disasters.
Station 1 (400 15th Street), opened in 2006, houses Paramedic Engine 21 — a 2018 quint with a 75-foot aerial ladder — Paramedic Rescue 21, the Battalion 21 command vehicle, and the department's administration and Fire Prevention Bureau. Station 2 (1400 Manhattan Beach Boulevard), established in 1954 and reopened in February 2024 after a major renovation, runs Paramedic Engine 22 and Rescue 22. The rescue ambulances deliver advanced life support care and transport patients to local emergency rooms.
The department shares automatic and mutual aid with neighboring cities — a tradition with Hermosa Beach and Los Angeles County Fire that dates to the 1910s — and sends strike teams across Southern California during brush fire season. Its civilian-staffed Fire Prevention Bureau, led by the Fire Marshal, handles inspections, permits, plan review, fire investigations, and public education, and the department trains residents through the Manhattan Beach CERT program.
