It is a compact operation built around a single engine company staffed by a Captain, an Engineer, and two Firefighter/Paramedics, supported by a brush patrol crewed daily by one or two volunteer firefighters.
The department runs approximately 650 calls for service each year. Roughly 90% are medical emergencies such as heart attacks, strokes, accidents, and sudden illnesses, with about 75 fire incidents annually. Command staff provide duty-officer coverage when a Chief Officer response is needed.
Given the city's wildland-urban setting, the department places heavy emphasis on brush and fire-hazard mitigation, running an annual brush clearance program and maintaining two water-carrying apparatus for both structure and vegetation fires.
