About Amador Fire Protection District

Amador Fire Protection District was established in July 1990 as a dependent special district of Amador County, originally covering Pioneer, Willow Springs, Fiddletown, and River Pines. It grew over time through mergers with existing volunteer companies serving Pine Grove, Pine Acres, Volcano, Drytown, the City of Plymouth, and Lockwood, consolidating what had been a patchwork of small volunteer outfits into a single countywide district.

The district today operates nine fire stations stretching from Pioneer and Volcano to Pine Grove, Plymouth, Fiddletown, and the Jackson Rancheria Casino and Resort, running engine companies and a water tender with a shift Battalion Chief on duty around the clock across A, B, and C shifts. It is governed by the Amador County Board of Supervisors sitting as its Board of Directors, which holds public board meetings monthly.

Alongside emergency response, the district runs community-facing programs including wildfire defensible-space education, a Firewise program, a Safe Surrender site, and youth pipeline efforts through its Junior Firefighter Program, in addition to its volunteer firefighter program.
