The Alameda County Fire Department (ACFD) was formed on July 1, 1993 as a dependent special district governed by the Alameda County Board of Supervisors, consolidating the former Castro Valley Fire Department, Eden Fire Department, and County Fire Patrol into a single jurisdiction. It has since grown into a regional department providing services to multiple cities and unincorporated communities across Alameda County in the San Francisco Bay Area.
ACFD provides fire suppression, emergency medical services, fire-code administration, and emergency preparedness, and runs community programs including CPR/AED training, defensible-space guidance, ride-alongs, and station tours. It hires career firefighters and support staff and maintains a Reserve firefighter program.
