About Prescott Fire Department

Prescott Fire Department has protected Arizona's territorial capital since 1885, when City Ordinance No. 25 formally organized four volunteer companies drawn from the town's tradespeople, merchants, and Whiskey Row workers. Those companies consolidated into a single professional department in 1956, and today PFD operates as an all-hazards, career fire-based EMS agency serving roughly 46,833 residents across 42 square miles of central Arizona.

From five fire stations, the department fields structural, wildland, and aircraft firefighting capability alongside advanced life support paramedic engine companies, a dedicated hazardous materials team, and a technical rescue team that covers the city's lakes and surrounding terrain. Station 73 also handles aircraft rescue and firefighting for Prescott Regional Airport and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, and a sixth station is planned to serve the growing north Prescott and 89A corridor area.

PFD's community risk reduction division backs up emergency response with fire prevention, plan review, inspections, and wildland-urban interface fuels mitigation, reflecting the department's roots in a fire-prone forested region that includes the Granite Mountain Hotshots' home unit.

MissionMitigate the community's risk through service, excellence, and compassion.
