About Northern Arizona Fire District

Northern Arizona Consolidated Fire District #1, known locally as NAFD, provides fire and EMS protection across a growing service area centered on Kingman, Arizona, including outlying communities like Antares, Truxton, Valentine, and Chloride. The district operates its administration and Station 31 out of a recently completed facility on East Northern Avenue, alongside a network of career and volunteer stations that stretch from the Kingman valley out to the more rural corners of Mohave County.

NAFD is led by Interim Fire Chief Brian Grant, a veteran of the department who returned to lead it after rising through the ranks locally and at other agencies, and Assistant Chief Don Dallman. The district continues to pursue annexation of surrounding areas, reflecting its role as the primary fire service provider for a rapidly expanding part of Northern Arizona.

How to get hired

NAFD accepts applications for Full-Time Firefighter, Firefighter/EMT, and POC (Paid-on-Call) Firefighter positions year-round rather than only during discrete recruitment windows. Applicants are contacted for testing and interviews as openings arise, so a complete application on file is the key to being considered when a position opens.

Hiring process

  1. Submit the NAFD Employment Application along with the posted job description requirements
  2. Applicant is contacted for testing/interview when an opening exists
  3. Interview with department leadership

The district runs its own in-house training programs, including a Driver Operator Academy and Wildland Fire/NWCG certification training, alongside fire investigation awareness training for members.
