Department careers page ↗The Goodyear Fire Department is the career fire service of the City of Goodyear, Arizona, in the West Valley of the Phoenix metropolitan area. Established by the Goodyear Common Council on September 18, 1948, the department spent decades as a volunteer organization before hiring its first career firefighter in 1991. Today it operates eight fire stations, numbered 181 through 188, along with a fire administration office on West Van Buren Street.
Goodyear is tied into the Valley's regional fire system: the department joined the Phoenix Computer Aided Dispatch Consortium in 1999, is dispatched by the Phoenix Fire Department, and entered the Valley-wide automatic aid agreement in 2000. Advanced life support service began in 1995, and the department operates its own fire-medical ambulance service.
Beyond suppression and EMS, the department runs a Community Risk Reduction division handling prevention, inspections, and public education, plus the city's emergency management division and its resident CERT program. A Community Response Team (CR 181) pairs a crisis response coordinator with a firefighter/paramedic and is automatically dispatched on high-stress and acute crisis calls. An on-site behavioral health program, launched in 2016, provides stress-resiliency training and a trained peer support team for members.

Candidates need Arizona or National Registry EMT or paramedic certification before applying — the department notes these can be earned at area community colleges such as Glendale Community College or Phoenix College — plus a CPAT completed within the past six months. Goodyear participates in the Metro Phoenix CPAT Consortium for physical ability testing.

Does the Goodyear Fire Department have a cadet program?
Yes. The Goodyear Fire Cadet Program pairs volunteers with department mentors. Cadets must be 18 or older with a valid driver's license and EMT certification, and commit about 18 hours a month — ride-alongs plus department and community service — along with a monthly four-hour hands-on drill. Applications are accepted only during posted recruitment periods.
Does the Goodyear Fire Department serve areas outside the city?
Yes. In 2010 the department signed a 25-year contract to provide fire and EMS coverage to residents and businesses of neighboring Litchfield Park.
