About Bisbee Fire Department

The Bisbee Fire Department (Fire & Ambulance) protects the historic southern Arizona city of Bisbee from two stations. Beyond structural and wildland fire response, it handles hazardous materials incidents and runs an Advanced Life Support ambulance operation.

The department's EMS reach is unusually large for its size: its ALS ambulance service covers about 400 square miles across Cochise County, and it also performs interfacility hospital transports.

Staffing is compact and cross-trained. The 19-person roster includes a Fire Chief, a Fire Marshal, three Captains, three Fire Lieutenants, and thirteen firefighters, all EMT- or Paramedic-certified. The department also enforces the International Fire Code and conducts fire investigations.

Community work is a visible part of the job, including free blood pressure clinics, home safety inspections, twice-monthly CPR classes, fire prevention education, and fire extinguisher training.

How to get hired

Bisbee hires cross-trained career firefighters who are EMT- or Paramedic-certified, reflecting the department's combined fire and ALS ambulance mission. The city has advertised a Firefighter EMT/Paramedic position on an "Open Until Filled" basis.

Applicants can email a resume to personnel@bisbeeaz.gov or submit the city's job application through the Bisbee employment portal, where candidates can also subscribe to notifications and download the application form.
