About Fairbanks Fire Department

The Fairbanks Fire Department protects the city of Fairbanks, Alaska, operating out of two stations: Station 1 at 1101 Cushman Street and Station 3 at 1033 Aurora Drive. The department also runs a Regional Fire Training Center on 30th Avenue.

The Operations Division is staffed by 43 firefighters organized into three platoons working a 48/96 schedule. All suppression personnel are cross-staffed, meaning every member carries at least EMT 1 and Firefighter 1 certification and responds to both fire and medical calls.

Crews handle a broad mission set for the Interior Alaska region, including structure fires, wildland fires, motor vehicle accidents and extrication, water and ice rescue, hazardous materials, and technical rescue. The department also provides ambulance transport and community paramedic services.

How to get hired

Fairbanks Fire has moved away from its former two-year application list; openings are now posted on the City of Fairbanks careers portal as positions become available. Suppression candidates are expected to hold, at minimum, EMT 1 and Firefighter 1 certification, since all firefighters are cross-staffed for fire and EMS response.

Applications are submitted through the city's GovernmentJobs portal, with additional guidance available on the City's Applying for Employment page under Human Resources.
