About Hazel Green Volunteer Fire-Rescue

Hazel Green Volunteer Fire and Rescue has served the Hazel Green, Alabama community for decades as an all-volunteer department, combining structural and wildland firefighting with basic life support EMS, vehicle extrication, and water rescue capability. A roster of roughly 30 members responds out of four stations spread across the district, backed by a fleet of engines, a dedicated rescue unit, a wildland attack truck, and BLS medic units crewed by EMTs and AEMTs.

Leadership runs through a chain that starts at probationary firefighter and climbs to officer ranks -- Fire Captain, EMS Captain, Deputy Chief, and Chief -- with several of the department's current officers, including Chief Steve Watson, having been promoted up through those same ranks after starting as rookies. The department pairs emergency response with community education and fire-prevention outreach, including help for residents with home fire alarms and smoke detectors.

Because membership is entirely volunteer, Hazel Green VFR keeps its doors open to new recruits year-round, inviting anyone in the community who wants to serve as a firefighter or EMT to apply online or reach out directly to the station.

MissionTo protect and enhance the lives of our neighbors and their properties through rapid and effective emergency response services.
